So, i would like to submit my Idea for the Dev Board.
I think it would be best, doing a page on its own, for the Ae contacts Europe Studd
On this Page, the Dev Board, and maybe later to Chats would fit well.....
Also, on this stand alone page (domain maybe), there would be links to all participating Sites. Jeux Online, HorizonsWeb and (maybe) istaria.de, because they are the Initiators of the Project would be linked with banners, all other participating Sites with text links.

What ya think about it?

We basically agree with this suggestion.

A neutral design for the forum and banners to the three particpating sites.

Domain name :
A distinct domain name is a good idea of course, especially if this dev forum grows into something far larger with more than three participatins sites. Even if the forum design is neutral, a domain name like eurodev.goa.com or eurodev.horizonsweb.org or eurodev.istaria.de will inevitably enhance the prestige of the hosting organization. A neutral domain name eliminates the frictions that could create.

However we are not against hosting on one of the German sites, especially, provided the design is neutral and provided this does not means everythinh else that comes up in the future will be hostes there automatically.

Why "maybe" Istaria.de ? Aren't they participating already ? Is frodolf not from istaria.de ?

I think that maybe shall describe that the basic Idea for this Board was from jeux online and horizonsweb...
The Problem with banners above the page would be that not everyone can have a banner of equal size all lined up at the top, so maybe we should rethink this.
I would prefer a neutral domain Name, for the Reasons that Kaal mentioned, the privilege of hosting is not dedicated to one of the participating sites. It would be nicest to take a international Domainname for this, so it does not point directly to the hosted webspace. Whoever than hosts the Board, is not too important in my Opinion, i think we all have good webspaces.
A neutral Design is a must. White/Blue are the colours of Istaria.de, Red/Black of Jeux online and Brown/Yellow of Horizonsweb.
So, what would be a nice and neutral colour Theme for the board ?

Yes the banners will not very nice. A specific design will be nicer to look.

Mmmm the colors ... Istaria.de is very light, Fomalhaut (Jeux Online is the name of our network, our site is really called Fomalhaut) is dark and Horizonsweb is somewhat in between ... difficult !

We could also make something entirely new, with just some elements from each site?

What does formalhaut mean ?
It has been a long time since i took french in School ;)

Small buttons could be nice for links, imho, like the ones we submitted to AE for linking our sites....
Wouldnt be a Problem to place 3 in a row @ the Top, and later, when more Sites participate, place the other Sites right or left (hey, we are the founders of the Project, so everybody who joins in later has to go under us :D ).
For the Colors, i would prefer something nice and easy to look at...

Fomalhaut is the name of a real star. We choose that name because of a fictional story we've written where we imagine that Istaria is situated on a planet circling the star Fomalhaut.

Of course the others will have to place their buttons under ours I support this idea 100 % :D

Small banners for links, yes.

Colors, yes that Yabb board is defn like Horizonsweb. Our graphical styles are really very different. What if we used the official boards as a base and worked from there ?

Any comment from the others out there ? Elgolfin? Kartaj ?

In fact, I think the design of the official boards would be the best. This way, the only link with each of the fan site would be the "small buttons". And, most of all, Scan would be "like at home" ;)

I've still some free domains at my provider (com/net/org/de/ch/at/co.uk/org.uk) - so I could register one (I think .com would be best) if thats ok for you ?!

I agree, the Design of the official Board would be best.
For the Domain, i would prefer an extra Domain, like i said.
I think eurodevboard.org would be nice.
For the Board Software, i guess we all agree in UBB ?

I've talked about the domain name with Elgolfin (who is also the network admin for Jeux Online)

Since we're hosted by Goa (which is a business), it is impossible for us to have a forum on Goa's machines that would not have 'goa' in its domain name. If we're going to host something, then it will have to carry the goa ad banner and have a "xxx.goa.com" domain name.

So that settles it - we can't host it :)

eurodev.com is fine with me.

I knew you would agree with me, Kaal.

With UBB, theres one Problem.
The UBB license is only for one Domain, afaik.....
goa.com has UBB, we dont, and eurodevboard.org wont buy UBB, imho.
Maybe we have to consider using another Forum Software ?
I have a DCForum license, wich i personally like more that UBB, also,there are many free Forums out there, and i am thinking about licensing vbulletin.
So, many options, wich one will we choose ?

Our UBB license is indeed linked to a specific domain name.

That software you're mentioning, its that what you use on Horizonsweb.org ? It seems to be fine.

Could you tell me more about where you get all those riches (see my background thread) ? I see no banner ads on your site and yet you seem to have licences and domain names aplenty ! Is Gomp run by a rich benefactor who just happens to like games :D ?

gOmp is entirely private, just made from people who like Games.
The licenses, well, i buy some Software that i really like, and wich isnt too expensive.
DCForum is not the one we use on horizonsweb.org thats phpbb, it is free ;)
If you like to check out dcforum, you can take a look at either devboard.horizonsweb.org (wich wont be used, it was just for testing) or www.dcscripts.com

The Domain should be ready tomorrow, i will set up the Board in a default configuration on eurodevboard.org , than we can start to customize the colours and discuss the Design.

A name like horizons-europe.com or euroboard-horizons.com is more eloquent, isn't it ?

It's easy to remember this adress and u always can keep the general url www.eurodevboard.org
